Glory at last. [sun sep 21st, 2008]
Back from Evo compy. First ever compy that i actually managed to win something out of it. 3rd prize! Only a mere 100 bucks. But it's not the money that counts but rather the feeling of winning it. We could have done better though, could have made it to the finals i think. But nvm its gg well played ^^ i played rk lich and omniknight for the 3 games, was there just to support my team's late gamers. WE KEPT DRAFTING TB AND NECROLYTE o.o Hope we can move on to bigger compies and win in the future!

Updatessssss [sat sep 20th, 2008]
It's been a long time. i can't bear to see my Blog rot anymore, so i've taken the liberty of updating it.

Basically on my gaming career, I have joined up with Team Impact, where ex team members feng & zhen are spearheading the team. Will be playing a more primary role of support/catcher. Evo competition is this sunday, our aim is to possibly win the competition, plus training is on friday with the team at evo @ parklane. Hope we will be able to gel well and perform at EVO on Sunday.

On DotaSG's side, we have just thrown in a few new changes, such as the "Community Matchmaker" which promises to fill in the void left by lack of a proper platform for draft matches. So far only [A]ttitude gaming, a team whose members i am very close to, has posted their match details there. To all teams that might be reading this, i hope you all do the same as well as it can help your team to find draft matches more efficiently, as well as an avenue to look for more specific teams to battle against. Hopefully it will work out as planned, and the ultimate goal for us at DotaSg is for the gaming community to continue to prosper. Visit www.dotasg.com for more information!

Next week will be a busy week, my parents are going overseas on wednesday to saturday. Sounds like a opportunity to get some friends over for overnight tonning :p Anyone interested? Phone me up! As of now, my JC friends are having their promos. Wish the best of luck to my CJ and YT friends in JC. At least you all possess the courage to confront the exams, unlike me. ALL THE BEST, don't retain! Also looking to go sentosa maybe next week with the usual peeps i've been hanging around, jermaine, karen and co. Lots of activities to do there, such as kayaking, beach volleyball, and even tanning is a viable option. Looking to achieve a deep sexy dark tan and well-defined muscles.

I've stopped gymming for a month or so, have to get my personal fitness back in otherwise i might face the danger of physical decline. Nonetheless, i will step up the pace and continue pursuing my endeavours. Exams at MDIS has ended, for 1) Organizational Business and 2) Business accounting and finance. Moving on to Principles of Economics and Business management. This should be a walk in the breeze to me, as i've studied economic concepts in JC earlier this year + Business management is very identical to OB, which i happen to be very good in. After i've achieved my Diploma in Biz management i will go on to Singapore Polytechnic next year, enrolling in either the Diploma in 1) Creative writing or 2) Media communications. Both are very similar in terms of course syllabus, but the difference lies therein that Creative writing is more tutored to writing aspects, which is my passion and interest. No doubt i will continue to write for life.

Funnily enough, a random fact about me at this minute: I miss Brave new world, the Utopia and Dystopian worlds. I seem to be unable to recall anything about that book right now.

"Stars hide your fires, let not light see my black and beautiful desires." - Macbeth (I think it's not 100% correct though)

We went out. [wed sep 17th, 2008]
Yesterday was a great day. You know why? BECAUSE I FINALLY FINISHED MY EXAMS FOR MY FIRST 2 MODULES, ESPECIALLY THE DREADED ACCOUNTING MODULE! Finally. I really hate accounting to the core. lol. Anyway i was the last to reach and the first to finish, about 10.30 to 11.30. i took only 1 hour! some people started earlier than me but ended around 1. Waa... dunno whether its good or bad. :O

Anyway after the exams i went to meet 2 of my good friends! Jermaine and Karen! :D We met up at town at cineleisure and decided to walk to a nearby starbucks at orchard's borders. We finally found a comfy place to settle down and jermaine and karen ordered caramel fraps, 1 tall and 1 grande for themselves. We managed to take a lot of pictures as well, will try to upload them here as soon as possible.

I've gotta go now, can't blog anymore. WGT coming right up. See you guys!

Top 10 HIghlights of Beijing Olympics [wed aug 13th, 2008]

BEIJING - Following is a selection of the top 10 moments from the Beijing Olympics:

1) Usain Bolt breaks the 100 meters world record. Bolt already owned the record and in front of a packed Bird's Nest stadium he ran 9.69 seconds. He thumped his chest in triumph over the last few meters before his 'marksman' celebration which became one of the lasting images of the Games.

2) Michael Phelps roars in triumph and relief after American team mate Jason Lezak overtook France's Alain Bernard on the final leg of the 4x100 freestyle relay to keep alive Phelps's dream of beating Mark Spitz's record from 1972 of seven golds in a Games - a dream he was to realize.

3) Liu Xiang dejectedly walks away from the track as he realizes he has to withdraw from the defence of his 110 meters hurdles title because of a leg injury. Liu was the most popular sportsman in China and his grimacing departure clouded the Games for millions of home fans.

4) Russia's Yelena Isinbayeva turns the Bird's Nest into her private theatre with a gold medal and world record-breaking pole vault performance that captivated the 91,000 crowd. After she spent most of the competition lying under a towel, she broke her own world mark with a leap of 5.05 meters.

5) The Opening Ceremony. It emerged that some of the performance seen on television had been enhanced by computers, a child singer was replaced by a supposedly prettier face to mime to her voice and representatives of China's ethnic minorities were no such thing. But it was a jaw-dropping beginning to the Games, culminating in former gymnast Li Ning being swung up the roof of the stadium and 'running' around the top level before lighting the cauldron.

6) German weightlifter Matthias Steiner kisses a picture of his late wife Susann on the gold medal podium, choking back tears over the promise he made to her that he would keep their Olympic dream. The super-heavyweight made the pledge to Susann at her bedside in hospital as she lay dying after a car crash in 2007.

7) American Matt Emmons blows a 3.3-point lead on the very last shot of a 120-shot competition to throw away the gold medal in the "marathon" event of shooting. Four years ago in Athens he had fired at the wrong target and squandered a 3-point lead.

8) Usain Bolt breaks Michael Johnson's 200 meters record. Charging towards the finish line, Bolt has his eye on the clock all the way and once again celebrates his triumph in style -- this time, after he completed his run.

9) Rohullah Nikpai wins Afghanistan's first Olympic medal with a bronze in the men's 58-kg taekwondo. Proof that no matter how tough the conditions you have to train in, Olympic success is achievable if you have the talent.

10) Estonian Gerd Kanter celebrates his discus gold medal by sprinting down the 100 meter track at the Bird's Nest and mimicking Bolt's marksman routine. High school jinks in a week when fun was put back into track and field.

Night Night [tue aug 12th, 2008]
Just finished my last game of the night using Sand king. Played with hyhy for i think 2nd or 3rd time just now. Top-tier gamers are indeed of a different calibre =\

Its 4am, i gtg sleep. Gyming tml morning. I gotta strive to keep fit lol, despite the busy schedule. Meeting my uncle tml to kick-start the Internet marketing business as well. Once it's up i'll post the URL here so you guys can visit it and buy the products u wish.

Team Redemption is formed, for Summerfury and future competitions! Our current members are 1) SoloZ, 2) Lance 3) Rodrick 4) Eugene 5) Qy. Sure ownage liao. Intensive training guns from next monday onwards. Let's hope we are able to perform beyond expectations. Another good thing is there's a huge chance of our team getting sponsored by DotaSG, the site i currently work for. www.dotasg.com

Besides that, i recently received offers from Mark to work for Wicked E-sports international as a Dota article writer. Man. It's probably my dream to write for international e-sports organisations like MyM and SK in the future, but for now i have to reject all such offers. Need to help Thomas build up DotaSG until it gets stable and fully functional, then i'll be rest assured and leave. Afterall I'm only here because of him. Like my name says, i should 'Ying Shui Shi Yuan'. No chinese characters so it looks awfullly weird. But it's ok. It's the meaning that counts...

hy™ says:

someone who shits on u isnt ur enemy

hy™ says:

someone who gets u out of shit isnt ur friend

hy™ says:

and when ur in deep shit jus STFU (Shut the Fuck Up)

LOL nice one by hyhy. He's a real nice guy :)

It's over. [fri aug 8th, 2008]
Long since i last updated. It's 3.35 am in the morning on the 18th August, to be exact, and here i am wide awake on a starry night.

Looking at some pictures of Jessica Alba. She's an amazing blonde beauty. Hope she stays that way :)

Hmm... life's really starting to heat up recently. What with my new ideas of forming a new gaming organization, plus school and my media duties, there isn't as much time as i thought there was. Han and i were brainstorming for the names on MSN just now, and we shortlisted 2 rather intriguing ones; Point Blank & VonDeyVoo.

School starts in 10 hours. Better catch some sleep before this.. School isn't exactly what i would call entertaining now, not helped by the fact that i missed school on a particular day when everyone started fratenising with each other... now i'm LEFT ALL ALONE :(

Accounts... [tue aug 5th, 2008]
Did accounts this morning for BAF modules.. was really boring and i can't really see how i will be doing accounts in the future for my career. But i guess it will be rather useful to know additional stuffs i guess, so i am able to apply them next time (if i ever need to that is). Could have sworn i yawned at least more than 100 times in the room and everyone else was coughing/sneezing, etc. Seems like the room isn't kept in very clean conditions. =\

Anyway time to recap on what i've learnt so far:

Organizational Business Modules:
-Introduction
-Organizational Culture
-Leadership (Missed out because i was sick that day)
-Perception

Business Accounting & Finance:
-Trading accounts
-Profit/loss accounts
-Balance sheet accounts
-And i can't remember the last one! what the !$#!@%?

Ohwell. I could have sworn that we didn't even go through the last one in class, so i can't be blamed for not remembering.. I still have 2 more battle reports on WCG to go through with, notably 1) ACG Semi-finals: Malaysia VS NZ, + 2) ACG Finals: China VS NZ. Not to mention the survey that my media team and i are coming up with to gather public opinion on how to improve our site to increase the amount of traffic in the long run. Anyone who has any suggestions feel free to comment here as well!

I feel sleepy... maybe it's time i took a well-deserved rest. And my pimples are on the verge of outbreak again, i sincerely hope it doesn't, please.

Community. Identity. Stability.

Beyond the Game. [mon aug 4th, 2008]
forumbanner by you.

It has been a long tiring 2 days for me, covering the Asian Championship Games at Suntec city Convention hall 402-403. This year was really a grand event and many countries in Asia has come to play for the title of 'Asian Championship Games' Champion. New zealand capped it all when they won the grand champion as they had  the most number of placings in the events, like guitar hero, Dota, etc. Their media team was also down at the event for the 4 days and i think did a fantastic job of covering the whole event.

Nevertheless, i think our media team did a great job overall of covering the event as well. We managed to achieve the following objectives:

1)
Bring to the DotaSG audience a detailed report of exactly what is going on in the WCG, for those who are not going down as well as for those who went to reflect on the event.

2)
Incorporate innovative and attractive ideas that will seemingly help to increase traffic plus consolidate our position as the best Dota site in Singapore that has best coverage based on efficiency and effectiveness.

I think we did well in these 2 aspects. As for the features of our media coverage this time,

-Battle Reports of 1 selected round each, starting from QFs - Finals, plus the ACG battles. (Yes)

-Live interviews, possibly employing the use of videos with Donovan (Our media spokesperson) interviewing the teams. (Pre-match and post-match, possibly) -> We will do interviews on as many teams as possible, so we know how people feel about the event. We will also interview famous teams. (No)

-Photos of the event, uploaded to our gallery after event. (Yes)

-Our very own WCG video, made by our media team covering original footage from the event, with background music included. (No)

-Updates on all competitions, not just Dota, to allow for diversification and other game enthusiasts to check up on the rest of the results for WC3, FIFA, Cs, etc. (Yes)

We did not manage to get the video productions into line this time round, however we did reasonably well in the other aspects. I think re-evaluation of our performance is important as it helps us to improve further as well as explore areas that need further reinforcement. Anyway, good job to the media team -> 1) Hanley, photographer and BRs & interviews. 2) Donovan, BRs & video productions & interviews. Well done everyone, let's look forward to the future when we can hire more personnel and utilize more sophisticated media equipment to make every event a success.

Regards, SoloZ.
